Honors programs: The Velma Fudge Grant Honors Program represents a commitment made by Albany State University (ASU) to broaden and enrich educational experiences of bright, highly motivated and creative students. Honors Program students are provided opportunities for scholarships, access to special extracurricular programs, a chance to pursue independent projects and research interests, professional experience through internship programs and special service options. Through its specially designed curriculum, the university provides the opportunity for faculty to teach academically talented students in inventive, interdisciplinary, small class settings designed to fulfill core curriculum requirements, as well as in advanced or intensive classes in particular disciplines. The Honors Program is specifically designed for academic scholarship recipients, academically talented students and entering freshman and transfer students with a proven dedication to academic excellence and scholarship. The Honors Program student must reach beyond good grades for success and have the courage to demonstrate superior ethical leadership in his/her chosen field of study. Special programs offered to physically disabled students include note-taking services, reader services, tape recorders, tutors.

Career services: Alumni network, alumni services, career assessment, internships, regional alumni. All opportunities are welcomed to provide experiential learning experiences for ASU students, especially those that result in employment opportunities.

On-Campus Highlights: Student Affairs Building, gymnasium, housing, stadium. Environmental Initiatives: Hazardous Waste Lab; recycling toner cartridges, paper and paper products, used motor oil, used cooking oil; containment for elevator reservoirs.

Freshman Academic Profile: Average high school GPA 2.81. SAT Math middle 50% range 410-480. SAT Critical Reading middle 50% range 420-480. ACT middle 50% range 17-19. Minimum paper TOEFL 523. Minimum computer TOEFL 193.

Basis for Candidate Selection: Academic GPA, standardized test scores. Interview.

Freshman Admission Requirements: 4 English, 4 mathematics, 3 science, (2 science labs), 2 foreign language, 3 social studies.

Freshman Admission Statistics: 4,773 applied, 42% admitted, 37% enrolled.

Transfer Admission Requirements: College transcript(s), minimum college GPA of 2.0 required. Lowest grade transferable D.

General Admission Information: Application fee $20. Regular application deadline 7/1. Nonfall registration accepted. Admission may be deferred for a maximum of 1 year.
